First and foremost, thank you, Kevin, for this opportunity to experience what you have often referred to in your training about observing. Thanks to you and to Danielle for opening up your home so that we could have this experience! Totally made it clear what the value is of this!
I arrived about ten minutes early, and since we were asked not to arrive early, I was not planning to knock on the door right away and simply waited outside. That was a great opportunity to say hello to the previous two flies, as they were leaving a bit later than anticipated. A nice treat!
Immediately after they departed, I was greeted by Saul, the very professional but affable household butler. As he showed me in and took my coat, I was struck by the beauty of the flower arrangement greeting me as I entered the foyer.
Breathtaking. The theme of beauty is found throughout.
Saul showed me to my room (I got to choose which of the two I wanted since I was first to arrive, so I chose one.) Frankly both were lovely, but since I had to choose, I did.
When my fellow fly arrived, I was thrilled and surprised to find that Danielle was at home that day, and personally conducted our tour.
What a powerful and beautiful home!
What struck me most overall was how smoothly things flowed. Observing Kevin in his office and throughout exemplified this. He moved easily from one agenda item to the next, often talking to himself, and, I suspect, sometimes primarily for our benefit, but not chattering nonstop.
All items were either added to, subtracted from or rescheduled on, his priority manager.
He spoke often throughout his interactions with the priority manager and I gained much insight into its value. I have “used” one for many years, but clearly not to full advantage!
Instructional was an example of taking steps towards a goal (chief aim/dream?) with a phone call (on speaker phone) regarding plane purchase. Having training and instruction in this sort of thing is great, but seeing it in action is invaluable!
Multiple little ‘breaks’ throughout were present, from a television break during a meal to running balls on the pool table, playing the piano or listening to the (new) player piano. This where the real power of a tape recorder made itself known.
I loved the portable tape recorder for capturing thoughts immediately when they presented themselves, especially when ‘taking a break’. I bought one just like it when I got home, and have used it – still developing the habit of playing it back regularly to transfer to something more concrete. Great example of how new habits need to be created to make new ideas actually useful!
We were fortunate to have Kevin drive to find a new location he was researching for storage, and got to see (hear) the self-talk creating an outcome that would be a win whether he found it immediately or not.
Since Danielle wears more than one hat (lady of the house, wife, GIN Director, student), it was impressive to be able to observe how seamlessly she was able to integrate them, and switch hats when appropriate.
Comments along the way, almost as asides, reinforced that all decisions were intentional, right down to the espresso machine that was purchased!
I would do this again in a heartbeat!
Thank you so much!
